Interventional Radiology
First Physicians Group Interventional Radiology (IR) offers a broad range of advanced, minimally invasive procedures in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our board-certified diagnostic and interventional radiologists combine expert imaging interpretation with hands-on procedural care to diagnose and treat complex conditions throughout the body—often without the need for open surgery.
Using real-time imaging techniques such as live x-ray, ultrasound, and CT, interventional radiologists guide small catheters and instruments through blood vessels or natural pathways to precisely target disease. These image-guided therapies typically result in less pain, lower risk, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery compared to traditional surgical approaches.
Interventional Radiology services include:
- Interventional oncology cancer treatments, including image-guided biopsies, tumor ablation and other minimally invasive cancer-directed therapies (e.g. Y-90 embolization)
- Venous thromboembolism (DVT and pulmonary embolism) treatment
- Prostate artery embolization (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia
- Uterine and pelvic interventions (e.g. uterine artery embolization for fibroids, pelvic venous insufficiency treatment)
- Hepatobiliary and portal hypertension interventions (e.g. TIPS, variceal embolization)
- Dialysis fistula and AV graft management
- Central venous access, central venous port and catheter placement
- Image-guided abscess and fluid drainage
- Gastrointestinal and enteric access
- Minimally invasive treatment of GI bleeding and internal bleeding from trauma
- Genitourinary interventions
- Drain placements and removals
- Musculoskeletal and spine procedures such as kyphoplasty/tumor ablation
- Diagnostic vascular imaging interpretation
